About Stephanie Holznecht
I am originally from the southeast coast of England and immigrated with my family to the United States at the age of nineteen. I attended university upon arrival and obtained a BA in graphic design and fine art. Over the course of ten years I worked as a graphic designer and art department supervisor for the Parker Pen Company, then left to become art director at Panoramic Inc., a packaging company. During that time I maintained my connection to the fine art world by concentrating on realism in pen and ink and acrylic painting. Over the years I have also attended many workshops in a diverse range of art and design subjects to enhance my growth as a professional artist. My current artistic style has changed dramatically from earlier years, moving from realism an abstract artist. This was prompted by some workshops in abstract painting that I took at the Peninsula Art School, Door County, WI. They inspired me to let go of my minutely detailed realistic artwork and free myself up to feel art in a totally different manner. My abstract painting is eclectic in nature, as I am forever pushing the bar and trying different mediums and techniques. My main focus, however, has been using fluid acrylics. I find fluid acrylic to be a rather challenging medium. I am guaranteed a different result with each painting I create. This is an exciting process that requires a level of skill that I continue to improve upon, as I control the outcome of each piece I produce. I never get bored with the use of this medium. Layering the paint is my specialty. This technique produces an engaging result, guaranteed to appear different with each painting. I still continue to perfect my use of heavy body acrylics and mixed media at the same time as working in fluid acrylic. I work on a number of paintings simultaneously, both in fluid and heavy body acrylics. I usually have two or three paintings evolving in unison. My heavy body acrylics are used in abstract form also. For me it is important to create what I feel. My abstract art is an extension of myself. Full of passion and emotion; happy, sad, angry, calm, all these play a part in my creative process. The sights running through my head create the desire to paint in a more expressive form. The outcome of the painting process is titled based on how I feel about the finished piece. In summation, I can say that I am an abstract artist who delves into realism at times. My fluid acrylic work comes first, and everything else falls into place behind. There is a never ending supply of ideas and inspirations to be found from my emotions and perceptions of the world around me. Some days I have to look harder than others, but they are always there. My artwork is a window into my soul and my goal is to always evoke some emotion from the viewer. Good or bad, there should always be something there for others to be able to read and draw their own conclusions. Always leave the observer with something in which to be enthralled.
