About Tepora Watene
Art and the Artist:
I practice various painting and drawing styles; ‘realism’ to portray a person, scene, or event, ‘archetypal expressionism’ to depict ancient legends and history, ‘expressionism’ or ‘abstract’ to convey emotions or a message. I've produced surreal and abstract surreal commissions. My abstract and expressionist works sell readily. Currently I am working on a collection of portraits for a future solo exhibition. Whilst my main medium is acrylic, I also work with water-color, pastel, conte, graphite, charcoal, ink, grounds, gels and various impasto mediums.
Influences: Ancient art. Maori; carvings, weaving and art. Salvador Dali, Jackson Pollock, Monet, Cezanne.
