The Red City

For this painting I was inspired by the Suprematism Art Movement focused on basic geometric forms, such as squares, lines, and rectangles, painted in a limited range of colors. My chosen pallete for this painting was based on the colors of the building materials used in the early 19th century in North America. I was inspired by the urban surroundings where skyscrapers contrast with the still present red brick buildings that we can find in the old districts in the city of Toronto. This project explores intense, vivid colors, bold forms and brushstrokes. I use contrast, combine different tones and work with varying transparency of layers to create texture and a three-dimensional feel.
