Bedazzled
At first glance my work may be regarded as ornamental, but to dismiss it as such would be to overlook the readings that appear upon closer inspection. The work generates an unorthodox, decorative beauty through the distortion of mass-produced objects of desire.
In the lead up to my participation at Aqua14 I turned my attention to the delicate and alluring subject of designer jewellery. Jewels are the ultimate expression of opulence, whose sole purpose is to be adorned and admired. They present a turning point in my subject matter from portraiture to still life, one I am excited to apply my distorted filter to.
