Doctor Frangst

After moving from California to Ohio, I found it difficult to photograph the landscape of the Midwest. In order to familiarize myself with my new surroundings I created a persona, called Dr. Frangst, based upon the early practitioners of photography who used the camera to record the natural world. The persona has also become a way to rationalize the ten years I spent studying and working in a biochemistry research lab. By photographing myself in the landscape, I am able to look in unlikely places at unlikely times at unlikely things and remember to wonder at it all.
