Sonata

In this series I am responding to surfaces altered by time; old walls, ancient frescos, the landscape itself, aged and eroded.  Each painting is created by layers of paint, natural pigments, graphite, ink and other mark making applied, then selectively scraped off to reveal layers beneath. Through this process of application and excavation I work toward a particular atmospheric effect in each painting as it reaches resolution.
