About Iona Rowland
I am a London based artist exploring the interplay between painting and screen printing. Drawing on the symbiotic relationship between fashion and sex, my practice explores the 'un-reality' where excess becomes fashionable and fashion excessive. The surfaces of fashion are used as a means of seduction; they appear highly plasticised, saturated in gloss and permeated by sensuality and eroticism. To confront the binary of oppositions which pervades contemporary fashion advertising, I deconstruct, reconstruct and abstract these surfaces; turning commerce into critique, realism into revelation.
