Self-taught, he started creating conceptual self-portraits at age fifteen in his hometown, Quintero, Chile. His work contains graphic, narrative images utilizing symbolism and the surreal through different digital techniques, such as photomanipulations, illustrations and cinemagraphs (Animated GIF images) Jacobsen’s work has been featured prominently in Chile both in exhibits and publications. His project “La voz del puerto” presented his use of design and digital photography to create unique results, and was selected for the Fifth Biennial of Design in Santiago de Chile. At the same time, his work has been recognized since his early start from renowned national newspaper and magazines such as El Mercurio, La Tercera, Paula magazine, Caras magazine, JOIA, Ander Magazine and Para ti. Jacobsen has also drawn attention from publications worldwide such as Vogue Italia’s picture of the day, publications in two books Self-Portrait Photography y Surreal Photography (Both from Ilex. UK), and magazines such as iPhotoPlus (KOR), Juxtapox, Hi-Fructose Online, Faint (AU), DMAG (Arg), Curve Magazine (LB), Photo Digital (TR), 23 (ES), Pravda (LT) & Insight (US). Known for the impact of their images, UK-based Dazed & Confused magazine put Jacobsen’s work in the limelight stating his “dramatic style and vision causing waves throughout the local industry”. Last year, the Yale Globalist featured Jacobsen’s work in an editorial about young art in Chile; and most recently, his photos have been selected by Saatchi Gallery director, Rebecca Wilson, for different collections featured in Saatchi Art. One of Jacobsen’s latest project “The Present”, a collection of five cinemagraphs, was finalist for Saatchi’s “Animated Photography” contest; this project was also published in "The Creators Project" for his innovative use of technologies to push the boundaries in digital art. His first solo show, "Mapas" (2014), presented new digital techniques to develop what he defined as Inverted Portraits, where emotions and feelings take form and overlap the surface of the real being, mixing technologies and the realism of photography to create a hybrid result.
