Nicola Morea and research in the painting of Michael Champion
When we speak of research in art, projected in the commitment that many artists try new routes of expression you can not help but recall one of the sayings attributed to the French painter Renoir about Impressionism. This is attributed to Renoir painting figurative definition of the great movement of the late nineteenth century: "One morning one of us ran out of black, you servants of the blue. Impressionism was born." Irony aside from research in art and in particular in painting belongs to precisely how our convulsive times, in complex societies like ours that is historically and artists in general requires the wise management of complexity so that a kind of spontaneity historical accompany or follow the flow of historical time. One of the Apulian artists with greater intensity than others who have dedicated time and space in the Nicola Morea pictorial research is that in this survey presents extremely interesting and special moments of his wanderings and conceptual representation of contemporary painting on the side. Restless spirit for himself, and anticipatory investigator of multiple horizons, ready to experience first pictorial avant-garde moments and reflections semantic Nicola Morea could make his own definition that the critic Kraus gave the pictorial research, and that is to say that "art is what that the world will become, not what the world is. " Here, from one part of the future. The projections on the scenarios that will be at half of today's assumptions. The current sensitivity and imagination in the service of future creativity. And just what Nicola Morea is happily experimenting with his painting, The older works dating from the late nineties, however, are those with a particular naming as "Star Route", "Icon" and "Graffiti". They are works in which the globally prevalent use of color, the color search for solutions, an operation by "painting, a palette of interrelationships swarming in and out from the painting. There are moments in which the color predominates and plays its role even with color schemes of Rococo. Others see emerge and distinguish the meaning of the painting in the lattice of the plots that draw graffiti fact suggestive but perhaps illogically, that open windows on the universe with stellar tracks, and who would like the Enterprise, the Star series Trek. The advantages of this operation are derived from the choice of color combinations, by the intelligent use of the palette, a widespread creativity. The most recent works, so to speak last year, playing on both sides, the first is the color you becomes more vibrant, acquires an authoritarian role of protagonist, moves and provides the evaluation of the beholder, or simply look at the works on display, with a finality that may derive from the knowledge of the results achieved by the artist. The other side could be defined that of the "subjective color". The color along other routes, and other addresses and proposes several solutions, it is intersected by valleys and crevices such as the glowing river of lava that comes out of Etna, or prefers combinations of vast territories, as part of the globe seen from the Earth's sidereal distances of the satellites. There is something even disturbing, however, high-impact, in these works that push the pedal to the maximum of the research. Finally, the altarpiece of the "Four Seasons". There is a red ignition of magmatic in the description of winter, leaving astonished and perplexed. The compositional structure of three other works that relate precisely to the altarpiece, are almost identical, indicating perhaps a logical sequence, emotional representation between one period and one year: the summer sun has the clamor, the great light dazzled. The yellow dominates. Even the Fall is as yellow as the summer but there is some evidence of a decline that is gathered between the blue and yellows of Autumn . Finally, the Spring has a more lyrical performance with the presence of subtle green that shows the image of endless grasslands. Nicola Morea manages to surprise us every time for the vivacity of expression, the results of research that is able to present, for the commitment and passion that puts it in his endless search. just as strong a passion.
