About zak shiff
Shiff's paintings present an abundance of associative images from the world of juvenile comics. Specifically, the allusions and use of childish characters codify the relationship or alienation between the individual and society in urban surroundings. The robotic roles symbolize the technological replacement sets invented for human beings in the modern world, but also corporate demands of each person expected to comply actively by behaving as a mechanical robot. Zak Shiff's works tend to feature courageous details with obsessive traits and colorful rhythms. He creates structural tension through arranged areas of painted patches among wilder grotesque forms applied by brush strokes. Despite the multitude of shapes and tones, a surprising harmony is achieved and maintained with a dynamic beat which his incorporated sense of ironic humor gracefully accompanies.
