The idea started when one day I was busy making lino cut prints. At some stage it was time to get rid of the excess ink on the roller. I grabbed an old piece of paper and just vigorously rolled and dabbed the roller on the sheet of paper. This involuntary action ended up creating very interesting marks on the page. I decided right there and then that this needs to be explored further. The following series of works are the result of what was seen as a seemingly pointless action that turned into a new technique for me. This specific technique can be classified as mark making. The idea is to make a series of marks (random and strategic) that will eventually make up a figure without using any outlines. The aim was to leave the figures “unfinished” and let the viewer’s brain complete the piece. I wanted to give the viewer just enough information for their third eye to complete the image.
