I am happy to present a 'modernised' facsimile / reproduction of medieval perpetual calendar for the month of February (frame and photo props are not included in the price). Such calendar can be mostly found in the medieval Books of Hours, which generally contain Church feasts, solemnities and memorials for the whole year. I studied the original medieval perpetual calendars in detail because I wanted to understand them in order to create a credible replica / facsimile that would also have a practical value for the modern times. Unlike medieval calendars that were based on a Julian calendar, my calendar is based on a Gregorian calendar. It counts the days of the months as we know today (31, 28, 31, 30 etc.). Just like the medieval calendars, my calendar also contains Golden numbers (a 'tool' to help you determine the date of the Easter), it counts the days to next calends, nones and ides, and the days of the week are marked with letters from A to G (instead of having day names like Monday, Tuesday etc.). All that makes the calendar perpetual and possible to use it in any year - as long as we will use the Gregorian Calendar :) In the leap year, nothing changes the calendar; you just add the February 29 and everything else remains the same. In the Middle Ages, the Church knew different lesser saints, martyrs and other important religious people than it knows today. Since I wanted to make this calendar practical, I used the current General Roman Calendar as a liturgical calendar that indicates the important fixed dates of the feasts, solemnities and memorials in the Roman Rite, wherever that liturgical rite is in use. In order to add the spirit of the medieval times, the current feasts, solemnities and memorials are written in Latin. The February calendar page is original hand lettered and made on naturally aged art paper with torn edges which has a somehow similar look as a parchment. The calendar is written in traditional blackletter / gothic letters and decorated initials. All that adds a touch of medievality and authenticity to that beautiful piece of paper.
