In realizing this artwork I was inspired by a place so dear to me during my childhood and my youth times. In those periods of time in my life my parents used to to take me to the seaside, in a small and anonym village, where we used to stay the hole summer. I was in love with that place. In 1968 a huge ship wrecked very close to the village's shore and remained there to this day on. It was beautiful, became a tourist attraction, a trade mark for the village, transforming it in a famous resort. So, the peace and quiet, the wilderness and uniqueness that we loved so much about this place slowly disappeared. We stopped going there anymore, but I returned there some years ago. I found there a completely different resort, with ugly constructions, with places deserted, old houses and hotels in ruin, just like that ship, once so beautiful and now left to decade in ruin and rust. I was so shocked and furious that after returning home I painted this artwork, therefor named "Two wrecks".

Romania
Hello, My name is Gabriela Anitei, I’m 64 years old, born and living in Bucharest, Romania. I am a professional painter, graduated of The Fine Arts Academy in Bucharest in 1984. From that moment on I started to participate to various exhibitions, workshops, and periodically I presented my works in one man show exhibitions in my country. I am also professor, teaching children painting, drawing and art history notions. I create paintings and graphics in my late father’s studio, this being the place in which I have learned and developed the passion for colors, for the artistic world and where I have learned how to become a professional painter, under the attentive guidance of my father. I live modestly, but somehow in the sense defined by the journalist and poet Christopher Morley. Quote: 'There is only one success: to be able to spend your life in your own way.' So yes,I spend my free time trying to load my soul and my studio with all the richness of images, feelings and ideas that I can steal from this wonderful Nature that STILL surrounds us. In my artistic world I read a lot, I listen a lot more to various kinds of music, but mostly classical, especially when I’m working. Thus, my thoughts and feelings which emerge during these occupations, are the ones to be found explicit or just suggested in my works. Also, the pleasure experienced every time I am in the midst of Nature, far from the crowds and urban noises, is completed by the pleasure - even the need – of photographing everything that impresses me and leads me towards meditation. So that, when I return to my studio I surprisingly find myself painting and reproducing more my state of mind and feelings experienced before the subject, then the subject itself.
