This piece of work was inspired by the great Mondriaan. I stumbled on his work again recently and some of his patterned work from the early days I really admired. My artwork is made from one photo which I shot in Amsterdam, a place on a wall where a poster of some kind had been torn away like a bandaid. The remains on the wall had a green, grey pattern which I immediately connected to an artwork of Mondriaan. At home I puzzled my way around to get the same feel with the image. I was very pleased with the result. The best compliment I had was from a friend who came by and without knowing the background idea, said: 'Nice, it looks like Mondriaan'. I hope people enjoy the Mondriaan-feeling about the work and recognise that 'old' style and appreciate my new approach. With this work I'm trying to be a digital painter, based on photo's. Also I find it rewarding that useless things like scars from the city are preserved in this way and transforming to a new form.

Netherlands
I was raised in a town called Groningen and became involved with photography during my study Dutch Language and Literature. My father gave me a camera (Fuji) for my 16th birthday. My digital artwork is based on photography. I try to create new forms that originate from ordinary, sometimes even unnoticed objects: fire escapes, rusty containers, details of buildings. It's nice to give meaning to things that had little or no meaning before. Sometimes it's like giving life to dead objects. The outcome of a collage is never certain, they continue to surprise. And sometimes one picture is just enough.
