Erick was born in Santiago, Chile, into a family of artists who instilled in him a love for art. His father taught him to work with wood and inks, while his mother introduced him to the world of embroidery and vibrant colors. His grandmother passed down knowledge about nature and natural pigments, inherited from the Mapuche people and his Inca grandfather.
He learned various artistic techniques, from metal sculpture to screen printing. His cousin, Chamaco Parra, invited him to create a piece for Nicanor Parra’s 100th birthday, leading him to set up his workshop in the poet’s house. There, he immersed himself in the art of Violeta Parra and understood its depth.
Seeking new influences, he traveled through the south of Chile, Peru, Bolivia, India, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries, exploring different artistic expressions and techniques. He experimented with the relationship between colors, sounds, and aromas. Upon returning to Chile, he started a sculpture workshop and continued his journey through South America, though heavy rains in the Amazon led him to North America. In Miami, he found inspiration in modern art and later settled in Boston, where he now has his workshop in Cambridge, near Harvard and Lesley University.
In 2014, the Estación Mapocho Cultural Center in Santiago, Chile, hosted a tribute to the poet Nicanor Parra's 100th birthday. The tribute opened the 34th Santiago International Book Fair (Filsa).
