Michelle Steen was born in 1982 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and grew up in Washington State. She graduated in 2005 from Seattle Pacific University with a BA in English Literature and Studio Arts. She earned her MFA from the Academy of Art University in 2010. Her work deals with issues of female identity within the context of contemporary life and art history. Michelle's art reveals a fascination with subtlety of expression, and she uses light and psychological composition to provide emotional insight into her subjects. Today she is a member of the College Art Association and lives and works as an artist in San Francisco.
