Inspired by fashion, elegance and femininity, Jos Van Dijck depicts his women of the world, in a collection of paintings called “The Divine Diva” Jos Van Dijck is greatly influenced by the great icons of history, mysticism and the traditional art of the French and English gardens. His signature subject is the stereotype diva; lavishly dressed in exuberantly draped robes and remarkable jewelry. With a dreamlike vision he portrays the stars of women’s history in a quirky style of decorative and arcane paintings. Greta Garbo, Cleopatra, Theda Bara and Iris Apfel are just a few amongst the magnificent drama queens that stage Jos Van Dijck’s mystical wayward world. A universe extensively submerged in the wealthy faddisms of Mariano Fortuny, Alexander McQueen and Coco Chanel. The artist’s paintings are rife with sensual imagery, rich colors, divine baroque subjects and symbolism. His story of inexhaustible creativity began on the day Jos Van Dijck was born in 1941 in Belgium, in the heart of the Flemish Campine, where he currently lives and works.
