About The Artwork

Incarnation of Justice and Innocence Husband of Nanna, Goddess of Joy, with whom he begets Foresti, God of Laws and Order, to whom one relies for the management, or still better, the eviction of any conflict. Baldr, son of Odin and Frigg, is the darling and the luminous one amongst gods. He is the one to whom nothing can be reproached. He embodies purity and youth, he personifies the absolute of beauty, clemency and wisdom. Known for his kindness, eloquence and wisdom, his advice is admired by all but followed by no one. Moderate, calm and gentle, Baldr is not really the archetype of the warrior, unless it is internal warfare, as the adjective in Old Norse "baldr" meaning "bold, brave" encourages to think. Frigg, indeed distressed by dark omens weighing on the life of his beloved son Baldr, made promise every element of nature, that it was plant, animal or mineral, to never offense against the integrity of his son . Only a young mistletoe was exempted because it was considered too playful and harmless by Frygg. Assured to have nothing more to fear, it is with carelessness, naivety, that the good Baldr agreed to be the immortal target of the throwing of spears and the stones of all the amused gods. The fall of innocence Subtle and manipulative, Loki picked up the mistletoe that he placed in the hands of Höd, blind god for participation in the pithy game that proved fatal. Höd became a fratricide despite himself. Baldr perished, to the surprise and misery of all. Thus, on a funeral ship, Baldr leaves the happy world of Valhalle and rejoins Helheim. If Hel agrees to make Baldr alive to the condition that all without exception cry, it is once again Loki, who disguised as giant Thokk and refusing to mourn the death of Baldr, who defeats the reprieve granted to Innocence and condemns her forever. If he is the most loved of all, he is yet destined for an early death.
