About The Artwork

This study was the second of two I created to help me envision the human head of the cherub in "Cherub -- Ezekiel's Vision." I wanted the cherub's face to be distinct and familiar to what Ezekiel would've seen at the time, so I found a study by Kobyliansky et al. in Anthropologischer Anzeiger that attempted to recreate what ancient Jews in what was then Judea/Palestine looked like based on the morphology of skulls found in the region. This skull was from the Roman period, around the third century BCE, and had mostly Mediterranean features.

My goal is to create work that speaks across genres and traditions. My training in painting was in classical realism, but I work mostly in abstraction and surrealism. Regardless of genre, I balance representation with emotional communication. To me, the best paintings move their viewers without sacrificing technical proficiency, no matter how abstract or representational. You can find more of my work at www.slreichman.com.
