About The Artwork

In traditional Chinese culture, Tangerine is an auspicious fruit for Lunar New Year. The word for tangerine in Chinese resemble the word for luck. The colour symbolises gold, the fruit has a meaning of bringing good luck and wealth. Tangarine in Cantonese pronounced (gat3) is same as luck. Hi! I'm Ling Pitts - born and raised in Hong Kong, currently residing in Singapore. I have a passion for drawing and painting ever since when I was young, attending calligraphy and painting classes after school. After graduating with diploma of visual arts in Hong Kong, I decided to continue my studies in arts and attended few courses (acrylic, oil) in Lasalle art college and Chinese art wet mount classes in Singapore. Hong Kong & Singapore are both places with a blend of Asian and Western cultures. So I think ink will be a great medium for my works creations. I decided to restart ink painting in 2020 during pandemic. Applying ink on different materials can be so different. Like when it diluted with water / when it not. When paper absorb it quickly / when it takes longer time to get dry on canvas. It is truly beautiful to see this process happen. I fell in love with painting and experimenting with ink and it's now a meditation for me. Calligraphy and painting are always a way to keep myself calm. I will continuously trying ink on different mixed media on a variety of different materials : shikishi board, mulberry paper, watercolour paper and canvas!
