About The Artwork

This piece is one of my first artworks fully done with charcoal pencil on acid free cartridge paper. Even though the awesome realistic outcome of using charcoal motivated this art, the greatest inspiration was drawn from the happenings in my continent, Africa. The drawing shows the happy sad oxymoron of an African child. In his clothe are people dancing depicting joy- an imagined future with happiness. However, there’s a lot of sorrow in his eyes as he sees an environment that mostly shutters dreams and cripples creativity. A situation that almost kept every African child in fear. No wonder I saw and still see my old self in this art.
