As a mature graduate, I have a rich background of life and experiences, from working as a carpenter and a martial art teacher in London, Austria and Bahrain. Taking part in exhibitions and shows such as the "˜Mind and Body' at Earls Court. I moved to Qatar to teach and work with the army and riot police, this has given me a broad outlook on life, people, counties and cultures. Which has had an impact on my life and the creativity within my work. With my interests in observation and the processes of techniques, I seek to evoke those feelings, of love, fear, loss and death which I have seen and felt over my life. Paul Nash is an artist I can relate to, his images of the first and second world wars, bringing the horrors of the conflict to the people at home. My experiences of working in the Arabian Gulf connect me closely with the core of Nash's work. I can see the horror, friendships and love of the young men fighting for their country. Magi Hambing I have followed over the years is an artist that have drawn me into her seascapes, which show the raw power and strength of nature in her own expressionistic way, with bold colour and brush strokes. Which in turn has helped me expand my work as a way of capturing moments, time, nightmares and memories within my work, using graphite pencils I use the textures in nature within my work.
