About The Artwork

I have created an open call for texts, inviting people from London, Palestine and Israel to give open interpretations to this image. While exhibiting it I have created what looks like a ready-made wall from some forgotten archaeological museum. However, unlike in the archeological museum, no fix information is given about the image. The viewers are encountering with an installation – the image hang a bit too high is framed in the middle – Next to it there is the invite that was sent in the open call, only this time it addresses the viewers themselves. Next to it there is a pile contained all the texts I received – The texts are handout and the viewer is welcome to create his own collection out of them, where he can choose how many and which one to take. The image is given, but its open for endless readings and interpretations, from which one can always choose what to highlight and what to ignore. This strategy allowed parallel readings, academic as well as poetic, to expand our reading of a single historical document. The historic arte-fact was presented out of context. It was open to subjective readings. In this way the authority and status of the narrative of the archive, and our relationship to history, to meaning, is questioned. http://michalbaror.com/thebird/
