About The Artwork
I teach art to grade 8-12 students and noticed that the plexiglass sheets that my students use as pallets were beautiful as the accumulation of paint on the pallets created these wonderful vibrantly coloured backgrounds. I wanted to give the backgrounds a focal point so I drew kumquats at a large scale, reduced it the image and transferred the photocopied image onto the paint pallet and then painted into the kumquats with acrylic paint. I love the combination of abstraction with a realistic focal point. I call this approach Emergence. The process of coming into view or becoming exposed after being concealed.
