Painting in Lockdown and dreaming of being free as a bird 'A gliders view' was inspired from a photograph in a Great British Isles book exploring this green and pleasant county. It lifted my spirits and made me want to take flight. The image is 300 feet over Dunstable Downs. The stretching National Trust land touches Whipsable on the horizon. Dunstable glider club was established in 1930 and gliders have been flying there ever since. Take flight, feel free and smile. The patchwork of land from an ariel view suits my work perfectly, I love to simplified shapes, create textures and patterns, build a sense of height and distance. Working in acrylic on canvas I like to experiment with the use of base colours, then overlay contrast colours, remove sections, add patterns to create form and depth. And of cause there must always be the watching moon.

I qualified from Art School in Manchester in the 1980s with a Degree in Communication Design and have been a practising graphic designer for over 25 years. With a love of pattern and graphic design, my painting career has developed to reflect my design background. I work in acrylic on canvas but I also like to experiment with mixed media and the strength of clean black and white images and I love large format pieces. With a commercial awareness of how people perceive images, I paint to reflect a sense of the subject matter, condensing form into definable graphic shapes, textures, colours and patterns. I explore finishes, overlaying colours removing sections for depth and interest of field and vision. The paintings evolve and grow in depth as I develop them and the piece itself becomes a patchwork of texture, graphic shapes and patterns. Originally from the North, her landscapes depict both, her heritage and experiences, places visited or images that inspire. She now lives and works from her home in Beckenham, Kent.
