Also Painting

Earlier in the year, I had been making watercolors that included circular and oval shapes with concentric striated brushstrokes. This was one of them. It was an amorphous environment that didn't work -- it needed focus. Recently, I "installed" the leaning bars. They are the opposite kind of impulse from what's underneath -- something out of my left brain. When I am starting to think a painting might be done, I start talking about it to myself. Here, I had finished the bars on the left and imagined a green one on the right, a dark one that would "also" be there. I put it in and felt it needed more strength, so I put in two more. The bright ones are still prominent and make the painting asymmetrical, but the green ones are "also" there, and if you notice them, the painting balances.
