About The Artwork

This Zen Enso circle is brushed on Xuan rice paper, it is mounted in the traditional way and ready to be framed. The Enso stands for the Awakened Mind, the state of Non-duality, Oneness. As the third Zen Patriarch Seng Ts’an (Jap.: Sōsan) says in his poem 'On Trusting The Mind' (Hsin-hsin-ming): The circle is like vast emptiness, Nothing lacking, Nothing superfluous. One day I took the daily offering from the altar, a cup of green tea, and dyed the rice paper with it. The green tea transformed in a beautiful soft golden color with golden specks. This golden universe was a perfect background for an Enso. So I loaded my brush with different hues of black and gray and the result is a subtle Enso breathing in a golden universe. Size of the enso in cm: w 35 x h 34,5 x 0.2 cm. The Enso will be shipped rolled in a tube

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
