About The Artwork
In “Entwining Paths” mystery is created through the meandering and intertwining of the white and the green paths floating over a ground of vibrant blues. The colour blue represents both sky and water and is associated with expansive, imaginative spaces. The white path speaks of goodness and purity. The green path represents life, growth, and renewed energy. My intention is to represent the possible paths humanity has been offered and to create awareness of choices we need to make in order to keep our Earth healthy. My work is influenced by years of canoeing on Lake Superior and Georgian Bay, and walking in green spaces close to home. I have explored many paths in my journeys, both edifying and disturbing. I want to share my deep respect and awe for the wonders of nature by presenting it in a way that allows contemplation. I use mainly palette knife and occasionally brush to apply layers of oil paint to the stretched canvas. This technique allows for some surprises that I enjoy. Also, it creates active, lively surfaces that suggest shifting light and complex detail. Professional artist-grade quality oil paint is used, and the painting is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. It is signed by the artist on the back, giving details of title, size, materials, and place of creation (Ottawa, Canada). The edges are cleanly finished in white acrylic paint so that the work does not need to be framed, yet can be if so desired.
