About The Artwork

A light, ethereal painting on a wooden sandwich panel: The valley of Mahuangliang in Northern China has a loamy ground. Rain, wind, and the spirits of the land subject it to a constant flow of changes. Trees are tender, in a floating appearance, as if changing places and shapes incessantly. Somehow the wanderer, the artist, is subjected to a feel of loosing ground, also, and he paints his birches floating, expressing this overwhelming alienness in a land of grayish beauty. Having experienced the uplifting honor of making an artwork for a spiritual place, it would be great if this work could find a place of this kind. But, well, any place between heaven and earth would do good. The support is an undefined find, unused before but older than the actual painting. It congruently matches the artwork’s theme and atmosphere and it may have inspired it’s traces of ocher as much as the loess of the valley did. Hangers of metal are attached.

Christian Kabuß is an internationally established German artist and musician. He studied Medicine at the University of Rostock, then went on to Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia and Moholy-Nagy University of Arts and Design Budapest to practice Fine Art. The artistic language within his paintings is deeply linked to a phenomenological approach to bodiliness, the freedom of subconscious artistic creation, and the theoretical and practical considerations of Design. Kabuß has exhibited in Germany and abroad. His works are present in regional, national and international collections. It is his aim to work as honest as possible, and he tends towards imagery, which is embedded in Lebenswelt, and sound. As a pianist, he performs small intimate concerts. His music is soft, sometimes freely improvised and portrays a sense of a parallel-world. Exhibitions in Italy, Sweden, Germany, China, and Japan.
