About The Artwork

Painting: Japanese, Chinese ink, mineral pigments and watercolors on rice paper. The seascape painting ‘The Sea Of Light Of A Mediterranean Island’, is inspired by Cala Sant Vicenç in the bay of Pollença, on the Mediterranean Balearic island of Majorca. This seascape artwork is done with Japanese, Chinese ink, pigments, and watercolors. I chose to evoke the predominant sea of light of the island glowing in the summer sun with a luminous wash of turquoise and cerulean blue. In the foreground tall pine trees arise, offering shade. The seascape painting is mounted with soft cream-colored silk that harmonizes delicately with the vibrant watercolors. The hanging scroll has a natural wooden roller at the bottom and is ready to be hung on a wall. Size of the scroll in cm: 202 x 91 x 0,2 cm. The width of the scroll without the rollers is 81,5 cm or 32 inches. The scroll will be shipped rolled in a traditionally-made silk box

My artwork comprises Zen calligraphy, watercolor and ink paintings, and abstract calligraphies. My mediums are ink, watercolors and natural pigments on rice paper, mainly Xuan paper. I wield the Chinese and Japanese brush, preferably the flexible sheep's hair brush. Many of my Zen calligraphies express the Emptiness teaching from the Heart Sutra, which has been the original inspiration for my Japanese calligraphy artwork. Other calligraphies focus on the teachings of the Diamond Sutra, Platform Sutra, or depict Zen koan, Zen poetry or single kanji. In my watercolors and ink paintings I strive for a pictorial synthesis of the subject, in the spirit of Japanese ink painting, using bold washes and vivid brush strokes.
