About The Artwork
I painted Mary Magdalene for the Lady Chapel in Bradford Cathedral where I had an exhibition in 2017. I have painted her reflecting and accepting the grief of loss. Her clothes are pierced by nails from the cross and her hair becomes the thorns of the crown that was worn, it is also the garden surrounding. This is a moment of intimacy, mystery and transcendence. The painting is surrounded by an oak frame which adds approximately 5cm to each measurement (56cm by 46cm by 2cm)
