This ancient and charming pub which is my 'local' . Established in the 1500s, it is one of the oldest pub by the Thames River. It is located at the original mooring point of The Pilgrim Fathers’ Mayflower ship which, under the command of Captain Christopher Jones, set sail from the site in July 1620 to begin its epic journey to America. One quiet autumn evening on my way to the local theatre, I saw the pub all lit up and welcoming. It's brightness and beauty inspired me to paint it as an evening scene in an illustrative and expressive style with the solidity of the ink line for architectural details and wet in wet washed to highlight the lovely colours.
