Structure #1 Painting

My name is Beatricia Sagar and I lived and worked in Soho, N.Y. until I moved to South Beach, Miami which is where I currently live and work. I work primarily in a mixed media format. I have spent the last two years working on Empty Room which is a series of different bodies of work that connect to that concept and can be viewed on my website. The work I am sending now is called Structure Series and is very current. (2019 2020). It is focused a great deal on line and integration of somewhat unrelated elements. As happens in our lives, especially in this moment of constant change, in technology, climate change, alienation, and politics, things contradict each other and force unexpected solutions which I use this as a metaphor to bring energy and excitement to the canvas. I like speed but want the work to blend with a forced controlled structure. I want the work to look effortless but in reality there is a lot of attention to beautiful surface, color, and use of materials. My process is to free my mind from which the original idea originates and work with a variety of materials and techniques to take advantage of the accidents as they happen until there is an integrated but unexpected outcome of that idea. My sources of inspiration come from the world around me. A color, the sun setting, the rain, an abstract mark on the street, and a poem can invoke a desire to work. I am inspired by art, fashion and sneaker designers, film, music, and changing youth cultures. This work seeks to find balance and structure midst the immense changes technology and communication impose on contemporary life by giving purpose to pieces of clothing, older paintings, and collages as I integrate them into cohesive new paintings. I was just named Best Artist in Mixed media and 2nd Best in Art Concept in Destig Best Artists of 2020 which is an international magazine.
