About The Artwork
I have always loved painting wetlands, for the way the light bounces off of the water, for the spectacular skies and clouds, and for the marsh grasses that cut beautiful meandering pathways through the water. I created this piece after a springtime trip to Kilmarnock and WhiteStone, Virginia, located on the Chesapeake Bay in an area called the “Northern Neck”. I have created a number of pieces on location in this area, but this big one was done in the studio from studies and photos made on site.

Jennifer Young is a listed artist who lives and works in Ashland, Virginia. She creates vibrant landscape oil paintings of the American south and of various scenes throughout Europe. She received her formal training in painting and art history at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. During college and after graduation, her focus was largely centered on exploring the human figure. Through the years her work has evolved to focus mainly on the traditional/impressionist landscape and plein air painting.
