This artwork is part of my series of portraits of birds in costumes. Here we see a bird-girl on a cornflower-blue background in a dress inspired by the Middle Ages. “The Bride” is a rather mysterious work. Why is the bird black? Why is she wearing a medieval dress? “Natalia Lotareva works in a subtle, decorative and graphic manner, creating canvases that are more like the mood boards of couture collections - luxurious, feminine, and in some cases a little melancholic, but always meaningful and stylistically beautiful.” Anna Voronkova, curator ~~ I am a multimedia artist. I work in watercolor techniques, lithography, etching, acrylic on canvas, and also as a calligrapher and sculptor. My favorite themes are fashion and beauty, but through the prism of time, eternity, melancholy. Also, birds often become the heroes of my paintings, as symbols of carefree, free creatures, but for me, they are already within the limited framework of their dresses, lack of freedom. I write mostly in a classical style, slightly imitating the style of the Old Masters. Since 2016, I have been working on my personal art project “The Ghost House” (watercolors and acrylic on canvas). In this artwork, Valentino dresses are situated in unusual old interiors and landscapes. Here the dresses live their own lives, and the viewers don’t know are they ghosts, dreams, or randomly created scenes. This project is not about fashion, it’s about the transience of time, life, the moment, vanitas.
