The Last Queen of France Painting

The last Queen of France was a pawn between the french and Austrian Empires. Her extravagance was blamed for the uprising which lead to the French Revolution. A tragic figure Marie was dignified during her trial and imprisonment. I have painted a sheer black mask over her eyes to suggest the enigma she remains. Recently discovered secret letters to a lover add to the intrigue of the life she lead before her brutal end. I hope she is looking out across the centuries to remember her short life. I chose the colours to resonate with the Rococo period and the ultra feminine fashions of the time.
