In this painting, I was trying to capture the stillness of the woods. It's that time of day when the light is waning and the trees begin to glow from the setting sun. The many criss-crossing branches briefly light up and create a connection to all the surrounding trees, drawing them together.

Web site: My medium is oil. I use my own photos as reference materials. I often take my photos and cut them up, rearrange and combine them in different ways. I like to play with light and dark, foreground and background and real versus made up or surreal. Another focus of my work has been light: how to paint it, how to make one feel it. I want to get the color of a lit object or building just right, to the point that I can convey a sense of place in time.
