Andrew Arntfield lives in Toronto and works in both oils and acrylics. His abstract paintings are in private collections in Canada, the United States and Great Britain. "My abstracts are influenced by my 30+ year experience as a graphic designer. I have always used shape, colour and contrast in my design work to lead the eye and draw out an emotional reaction. That design experience is reflected in my painting: it’s graphic, bold and hopefully difficult to ignore. But whereas graphic design can be methodical and serves the needs of a client, painting is immediate, cathartic and personal." Andrew has had a long and varied life in the arts. His first career was as a professional musician. During his 15 years as a keyboardist, singer and songwriter he recorded and toured with a Juno Award-winning band and performed in concert halls and arenas across Canada and the USA. In 1989, Andrew began a second career in graphic design. Over the past 30 years his creative firm has developed branding, design and advertising campaigns for arts, culture and sports clients across North America. Andrew has been a guest speaker on design and branding at numerous arts conferences and events. Andrew has also produced a feature-length documentary film on the Ontario gold rush of the 1920s.
