Margie studied painting, printmaking and sculpture along with biology and chemistry to earn her BA in Fine Arts from Wake Forest University. She followed her love for art and science and continued her studies to earn a Masters Degree as a Medical Illustrator from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas. For 15 years she created medical illustrations for magazines, pharmaceutical ads, legal exhibits and textbooks. With the illustration work Margie enjoyed taking abstract science concepts and communicating them in an editorial format. In recent years her interest shifted to abstract art where she focuses her training with color, layers and texture to communicate emotions, time and space. Margie’s art shares an emphasis on intuition and process. She uses traditional and non-traditional tools to make marks, explore and interact with the materials on the canvas, adding and subtracting layers with paint, paper, sanding and scraping. This process of moving between intuition and logic allows her to discover order from the chaos of creation. It is often the discovery of the unexpected that communicates clarity in her art.
