Scrub, even the word sounds pejorative. Not far from scrap. And the truth is, that scrap is often found in scrub. I love scrub. This more or less cultivated wilderness alongside our freeways, structuring farmland or behind well maintained gardens are an important refuge for a large variety of birds, mammals and other animals. All together quiet a huge amount of land. A wide varity of bushes, little trees, gras and flowers forming little ecosystems. A wild mixture of shapes and colors. Especially in fall, when colors spread to any possible hues of yellows, reds and even violets while some greens stay or others fade to gray or brown and black, scrub turns into a natural kaleidoscope. Nowhere else the densely packed and mixed different shapes of leafs, brunches in countless hues of colors form such an inspiring setting and inspiration for artists. The late Claude Monet paintings and even Jackson Pollocks drippings can be extracted in it. Nature is of course not Art, but this subject is predestined to be transformed into a piece of art through human reflection and interpretation. Which corresponds so well with the origin of scrub as part of culture landscape. A piece of wilderness in our so much regulated and under human tension suffering grounds. That is why scrub is one of my favorite subjects in nature photography. Based on his Nature, Landscape and Architecture photography, his artistic work is influenced by Monet and the classical Modern Art, his interest is the transformation of the 3 dimensional space into the flat plane in which often the subject looses its visual references. This induces a more abstract view which is open for interpretation. 2019 his book "Water" is published worldwide by teNeues publisher.
