As a visual person, I’ve always loved the way that dramatic lighting can bring inanimate objects to life, with enhanced depth and dimension. This photo is part of a series, taken of discarded items in a central NY forest. Forty years ago, a man named Bob Smith collected these castaways at roadsides and auctions and installed them in a small compound in the woods by his home. (PBS featured him in an outsider art program). With the passing of the years, time and weather took its toll. I was able to spend many hours wandering these woods, photographing the remains before they completely disappeared. When the low angled sun shone through the trees just right, these forgotten objects came alive one more time, resulting in this collection of hauntingly beautiful, evocative images. Printed on acid free, fine art paper with archival, pigmented inks. Various size prints are also available

I was born in Germany and moved around quite a lot as a child. I now work and reside in the U.S. I remember taking my first photograph at six years old, (a blurry photo of my mom's Volkswagen beetle door handle) and I was hooked. Since then I've loved photography, art and design, and how they all come together to portray a little ethereal slice of time in a permanent, viewable medium. I especially love to work with alternative photographic processes and how these sometimes-serendipitous procedures add extra visual dimensions to the images. The little stories that they convey are quite beautiful, even the controversial narratives. My works deal mainly with the human condition and also the simple beauty of nature. The emotions that they evoke within me can be quite varied, and I love it when the viewer experiences their own response based on their unique life's experiences. In many instances, we learn that humanity does indeed share a common bond.
