Art Description

Photography: Polaroid, Color, Found Objects, Photo on Paper, Canvas, Other.

When I was about 8 years old my father bought me a new SX-70 polaroid camera, from that moment on I kept on working with polaroid, even when I started my studies as a photographer at the Royal Academie of Fine Arts - Ghent - Belgium. There the teachers didn't feel much for polaroid and even considered it not as a photographic medium.
But I kept using polaroid.
Now 30 years later they couldn't be more wrong.

Paolo Roversi and Anton Corbijn have always been a source of inspiration for me. Paolo for his work with his " dreamy " polaroids in the world of fashion and Anton for his work as photographer in the music industry.

Especially the work of Anton Corbijn for his dark / rough atmosphere he puts in his pictures.
I try to put a rough atmosphere in my polaroids and In combination with the harsh / weird items I photograph.

For this project I used 545 peel of polaroids but I used the color negatives for the scans.
By enlarging these negatives in such proportion they become surreal for me and hopefully for the viewer.
