Born in 1948 in Orléans, France. Lives and works in the Orléans region. Philippe Chesneau's work has developed over time, through a free, cross-disciplinary, and profoundly experimental artistic practice where techniques, themes, and series interact without ever settling into a single style. From drawing to acrylics, from watercolor to mixed media, from pastels to digital painting, and even to engraving and sculpture, each medium becomes for the artist a space for exploration and shifting perspectives. This diversity is never a lack of focus; on the contrary, it reflects a constant desire to explore the sensory possibilities of matter, gesture, and perception. Philippe Chesneau's universe encompasses numerous artistic territories: portraiture, landscape, genre scenes, still life, gestural abstraction, and thematic series. Some of his work is rooted in an intimate relationship with the landscape and the memory of places, while others delve deeper into fragmentation, erasure, or instinctive expression. This interplay between figuration and abstraction constitutes one of the essential axes of his work. The image often appears as a phenomenon in transformation: emerging forms, incomplete traces, superimpositions, erasures, and tensions between construction and accident. Painting then becomes less a space of representation than a place of experience, where sensory states, rhythms, and reminiscences are deposited. Through the works presented, an approach deeply linked to time emerges: the time of observation, the time of gesture, the time of maturation of forms, as evidence of an artistic journey where each series opens a new field of exploration. The collection thus reveals an open body of work, imbued with the fertile doubt of creation, but also with a constant fidelity to a demanding, sensitive, and profoundly personal artistic exploration.
