A once proud motel that stood on the main Gold Coast Highway, where families, the elderly were once welcome. Its heyday was in the 50’s and 60’s soon fell into disrepair, years of taking the money but no maintenance. The Poodle stands out from the crowd, in a highway full of other overwhelming motel signs. Pick me, pick me. Where we can rent a room by the night or by the hour. Where occupancy can be more than 200%. We have free complentries! We can even find you your own private dancer. Families are not welcome but they will take your money and blend you in.

New Zealand
My work questions popular and prevailing perceptions, conceptions about our own world view and our own New Zealand story; to look under the rug, to see the shadows, to ingest the popular and unpopular, the familiar and the unfamiliar - to confront the message that we want to just drive by. My work is deeply rooted in Americana - a popular culture wasteland that seeps and leaks its way into New Zealand culture. I extract design elements from the street and put them into the Gallery space, I call this practice, Signtology.
