"˜Welcome to the Monkey House' Within my work I am attempting to create the "˜extraordinary within the everyday'. I am influenced among others by the work of David Lynch, Ralph Eugene Meatyard, "˜Surrealism' and "˜Magic Realism'. My work reflects in particular Meatyard's working practice of using his family and friends as masked subjects within the images located in everyday settings. The aim of my work is to engage, confuse and amuse the viewer. When I have exhibited this work I have used ornate gold frames reminiscent of the frames seen in traditional gallery settings. I want the viewer to question the medium, is it a painting? Is it a photograph? I purposely saturate the colours and use textures and vignettes to create the "˜look' of an old painting. This is an ongoing project and I am continuing to add new works within this theme to my collection. Overall I am having fun with this series of pictures, I have had a brilliant response and some viewers are slightly disturbed by the eerie, bizarre world created and I am pleased with this reaction.
