Carolina Echeverria

I am an artist, a storyteller and the creator of a powerful relationship with my word. My art is my authentic portraiture of what surrounds me in all its unreasonable possibilities that appear when I stand in front of an empty space. Fears aside, integrity, compassion and inspiration allow me to play in a constant dance with colour, visions and connecting threads.

I Left Santiago de Chile in 1986, I left my family and friends, I left my language, my mountains and my political struggles. I left school, the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile where I was studying Design since 1983.

I Arrived in Montreal, Canada in May 1986 when spring was hiding what was to come. I completed a BFA in 1993 at Concordia University where I graduated with Distinction; I graduated with a minor in Textile Arts and two children. I passed all my ESL courses thanks to my friend Gabriel’s great patience with my Frida Kahlo obsession and my very long sentences. I attempted a Master’s Degree in Maîtrise en arts visuels et médiatiques at the UQAM. It did not go so well. I decided to let go of the notions of being perfectly ready and set myself to create uncompromisingly.

I have exhibited my work since 1987, throughout galleries and museums in Canada, Chile, USA, Haiti, France and my work is in private collections around the world. For detailed information please request my CV at echeverria.art@gmail.com
