Derek Couturier

Derek couturier samples art history and popular culture in a fusion of abstract and representational elements to subversive effect across paint, graphics, print, 3D and video pieces. Where the abstract can have a metaphysical dimension, the representational elements are rooted in a material and all too human world. These divergent strands are threaded together, to explore their contradictions, continuities and inconsistencies in a way that can be provocative, stimulating and sometimes humourous.
