I was born in 1970, Bartin,Turkey. Graduated from Gazi University, Gazi Education Faculty, Department Of Painting in 1992, Ankara. I joined over forty group exhibitions, opened sixteen solo exhibitions and holds five awards. My works can be found in World Art Foundation, Caserta Museum and NY Arts Beijing collections. I still continue my work of art in her atelier in Bartin. I am also a member of UNESCO AIAP Association Of International Plastic Arts (UPSD).
The artist, Dilek OZMEN, separates women from men in a modernist perspective and draws attention to her state of being other or subordinate . In doing so,she leaves the woman without identity and reveals her internal conflict through the touches on the body. She discovers the negative influences of such concepts as patriarchy, sexual politics and pressure on womens body and in order to make those influences more visible, she streches(lenghtens) the body and its organs and combines them with bright and striking colours. Those colours with fierce brush effects highlight the gravity of her situation. In fact, the artist captured the theme of being woman in a modern perspective at first; but later, she has turned it into a postmodern one. With her composition, brushing style and colour choices,Dilek zmen reflects the common belief of post-structuralist and feminist philosophers like Helene Cixous, Kristeva, Luce Irigaray that women are in need of a new language and expression ways.Nowadays, the post-feminists arguement is to be different from men rather than be equal with men as in the past. It is also important for Dilek ZMEN to talk like a woman and talk as a woman especially just like Irigaray. In her works the artist talks as a woman while her works talk like a woman . What do these concepts mean? To talk as a woman indicates both phychological and social positioning of women. On the other hand to talk like a woman means being open to the plurality and subtlety of meaning , uncontrollability of information and accuracy and also perspective pluralism, which is what men's language always attempts to abolish, suppress and restrict.Dilek ZMENs Works are the ones where the concepts have been moved into paintings, drawings and colours..
