About the Artist

Anita Kostrzewa

United Kingdom

I graduated with an HND2 in Art and Design from Glasgow Kelvin College in 2021. Over four years of study, I explored countless techniques and projects, embracing the process as much as the final piece. In 2020, I participated in a student scheme, developing a project for Glasgow School of Art.
My abstract paintings are a reflection of my inner truth and the world around me. I begin with intuition and emotion, letting colours and shapes guide me rather than following a predetermined plan. I prefer to express feelings and thoughts through abstraction rather than illustration, finding freedom in the unpredictable.
At this stage, I am drawn to intuitive painting, abstract expressionism, and abstract figurative work. Nature and dreams inspire me, yet I am fascinated by the spontaneity of creation—painting without control, allowing whatever emerges from the heart to shape the canvas.
I explore diverse techniques and materials, from brushes and palette knives to sticks, droppers, and beyond. I paint, pour, wash, and sometimes even destroy the surface, embracing dynamic gestures, splashes, flicks, and drops. Organic pigments and natural materials often find their way into my textures, and I work with acrylics and watercolours to achieve depth and vibrancy.
I am captivated by the relationships between lines, shapes, and spots—the harmony and energy they create can resonate deeply with a viewer. For me, abstract art is a space of infinite interpretation, where one person sees one thing and another sees something entirely different. It surprises, it liberates, and it invites connection—this is why I paint.
