I am a retired teacher of English and English as a Second Language (ESL), and for many years worked also as a writer/editor in various settings.
The inspiration for my art is derived mostly from scenes of nature, especially in the soothing light of late afternoon.
The work presented here, done exclusively on paper, is largely instinctive, or intuitive, rather than literal or representational. It tends to be abstract or minimalist in appearance and includes the substantive use of white space, reflecting my feelings about composition and design. Much is left to the imagination of the viewer.
I was born and raised in Washington, DC, in an education-centric home. After high school, I went on to Yale, graduating with a B.A. in English. Later, I completed an M.A. in English at the University of California, Irvine.
Since my retirement from teaching, I have been living in two places, Israel and the U.S. This has been quite a fruitful arrangement, which has included my study of Modern Hebrew, an ongoing labor of love.
